Sat. September 21 from 10 am - 2 pm. Once again, we are proud to celebrate our agricultural heritage and harvest with this annual celebration. The Grain Elevator Site is transformed into a farm and a playground. Test your skills at several games that will bring back memories of days gone past. There will be a vintage tractor display, hayrides, and stooks. Discover Grain Elevator history by taking the Memory Lane tour; learn about the origins of the community, and research family trees at the Spruce Grove Archives. This is a great way to bring the Grain Elevator season to a close! All games and rides are free. We will be selling homemade chili on site.
Proudly Serving the Community since 1972!
The Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Heritage Society is a non-profit organization, formed in 1972, that supports the agriculture, horticulture, homemaking, and quality of life in the community. The Agricultural Society's goal is to ensure that they keep the history of the community alive for both present and future generations. When the Alberta Wheat Pool company announced the demolition of the Grain Elevator in 1995, the Society stepped in, purchasing the 1958 Grain Elevator for $1, thereby preserving it as a lasting legacy of the Agricultural history of the area. Today it is a fully restored, functioning museum, visited by several thousand visitors since then.
Since that time, the Grain Elevator site has become a very busy venue hosting "old fashioned" carnivals and fairs, specifically tailored towards children, adults, and families. Each year, thousands of visitors from Canada and around the world stop by to visit the Grain Elevator Museum, Archives, and Farmers' Market. The Agricultural Society supports the Spruce Grove Archives, which preserves the documented history of the district, and the Spruce Grove Community Garden.
Several annual summer fund-raising events such as Flapjacks at the Tracks Community Pancake Breakfast, the Farm & Heritage Carnival, and the Harvest Fair are hosted by the Ag Society and are very popular among community members and visitors. Events hosted at the Elevator Museum site are for the purpose of raising funds to support ongoing maintenance and preservation of the Grain Elevator and restored Water Tower, educational programs, and the proposed new building on site.
