Contrary to what the photo above suggests, the Grain Elevator, Farmers Market and Archives are NOT closed! Visitors are still able to come on to the property; simply follow the detour signs to get there. |

Preparing for the 2010 Alberta Muffin Challenge
We are SO excited that our Alberta Muffin Challenge is on again. Focusing on Barley - contestants are encouraged to use barley flour in their receipes along with Alberta made, grown, produced ingredients. Prize muffins will be featured at our local IGA Bakery, along with recipes for curious bakers.
Come down on Saturday, August 21 to see the prize winning entries. Juding begins at NOON. Winning muffins will be available for purchase by DONATION to lucky visitors. All donations go towards helping us build our Grain Elevator Emporium. Hustle and Bustle
Oh my but when things start to move around here, they move! This has been such a busy season so far. Starting with the water tower move, and then changes to the Farmers Market greenhouse and partnerships with the library (our Seeds of Literacy program has been a hit!) .... it's a domino effect. One thing leads to another and another. I love it! The community is noticing our activity too, and we are getting more phone calls and requests from local businesses to partner with various projects. Our …
Moving the Water Tower
Wow! After twenty years in a field, the Spruce Grove Water Tower has been moved to the Grain Elevator Site, where it will be restored, and preserved. The move went very well, with the assistance of some amazing local companies which donated not only their time, but equipment as well. What an operation! Check out the photos in our photo gallery ... and if anyone knows anything about this water tower, we would love to hear from you! If you know any of the history of this tower, we would love to hear from you! If you know ANYTHING at all about how this tower worked - we would LOVE to hear from you.
2010 Already!
Wow! I can't believe that I am going into my fourth year with this amazing organization. This year looks to be bigger, better and more exciting than ever. We will continue with festivals that have proven to be a real hit with the community and with the hundreds and hundreds of visitors who drop in every summer. Did you know that last year, more than 2000 people came through our gates? And that is probably a low guess because we don't charge a gate admission for every event! Plans are in the works …
Getting ready for winter .....
The blustery wind today reminds me that the season is almost over and, like the squirrels, it is time to start preparing for that 'white season' ahead. While the Grain Elevator Museum and the Archives will be closed for the fall and winter season, the FARMERS MARKET will continue to be open, every Saturday, until December 19th. We will still check messages, respond to email, and book school visits. If you want us to come to your school after Sept. 30, we would be happy to accommodate your needs. Please call to discuss options. Have a great winter, and thank you for supporting the Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Society.
Final Festival of the Season: Harvest Festival!
We are busy preparing for the final festival of the season, the Harvest Festival which will be held Saturday, September 26th. Time: 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM. This year, we have decided to focus on the Pork Industry in Alberta. Representatives of the industry will be on site to share information about Alberta pork. The concession will have a pork product for sale (sandwiches? satay? wait and see!) and we may have some interactive activities for the children. We hope to have some craft …
Corn Roast and Carnival
What a great day we had on the 15th! The weather cooperated after threatening us with nasty winds and rain the night before. We had all kinds of visitors to the site, and thankfully, we had volunteers to assist us with elevator tours because Leah and I were busy taking care of events and all the little details that suddenly crop up on a day like this. The best part of the day, I think, involved the contests. Our mayor, and several of the city aldermen participated, along with the publisher of our …
